I don't have Saab-specific experience on this, but it sounds like moisture somewhere in your rear drum brakes is freezing when the temperature drops. My friend's Nissan Xterra has drum brakes all around and his brakes occasionally freeze if they get wet and then are left applied overnight. I'm not sure how he frees them, probably just by nudging it a little in forward and reverse until they pop loose.
It could be that since you're supposed to park it with the transmission in reverse, something in the release mechanism is biased in that direction as a fail-safe, like what newwithasaab said. I have an automatic, but find that if I leave the parking brake on and put it in gear, I can get it to go forward if I gas it, while trying it in reverse will make it stop dead and the back end pops up.
