I have a 99 9-3 standard model. I bought it on the infamous world wide auction site, but I drove the car before bidding. It had 113K on the odo last summer. The Carfax history looks like it was a So Cal lease car and had no service records. Today at 118K I pulled the pan for a look see. Not much sludge and varnish buildup-phew. Screen had 5-10% blockage.
Tips for pan removal. Drop exhaust pipe with cat, disconnect o2 sensors, pan bolts etc. Remove the 2 front frame bolts. Loosen but do not remove the rear that holds the control arm. Raise the engine at the pulley about 2 inches. Have a muscular friend pry down on the front of the frame member with a very big -like 4 feet-pry bar. Pan comes out with a little wiggling.
