First, remove the stress from the transmission:
Put the e-brake on, push in the clutch (assuming the clutch is working?), try to shift to neutral. If that doesn't work, then it's definitely a shifter linkage issue and follow Saabnutt's advice.
If that does work but you can't shift with the engine running, then the clutch (or clutch cable) has failed. Time for a tow.
