I can only relate my experience.
AThe ACC always seems to do a perfect job keeping the windshield clear.
Even winters here in VT when my car stayed outside.
The heat starts at the defrost and gradually blends.
Very very rare I ever have to mess with it, maybe if I have some sweaty wet heavy breathers of someone sits in the cold car without running will the windows fog.

I do notice with temps around zero F, the blower runs fairly high at all times to 'maintain' 68. Moderate temps, 20F, fan speed increases as engine temp comes up, then decreases as cabin warms.
