I have a 99 9-3. When I was learning about the evap system, I noticed in WIS and on thesaabsite, that there appeared to be two different charcoal canisters - one in the rear near the tank, and one up front in the right front wheel well. Also, I've read different posts with some saying it's in the rear and some saying it's in the front. Eeuro only shows the one in the front, thesaabsite LISTS two different types, but with no pics.
Well, I called the local dealer (Tracy Banks Saab in Concord, NH), and the parts guy goes "Which one? Front or rear?" I ask so there are TWO charcoal canisters in the car? He says "yup, one above the tank and one by the front tire." The one above the tank is $180+, the front one is $41 (cheaper online).
He couldn't explain what the difference between the two canisters was other than the fact that the rear one is much more expensive.
So, does anyone here know what the difference is and the function of each one?
