I pulled the solenoid and flushed it with WD-40 (per suggestions found in other threads after searching APC). Then I took it for a quick test drive... The problem is still there... and yes... Boost enters the red line, and fuel is cut. If I recall, I may well have kept my foot on the accelerator the first time it happened, because I was in a tight spot merging... thought all hell was breaking lose, and I was going to die on the Interstate, being flattened by a semi. I think it did actually "Buck" with fuel being restored and cut in a nasty cycle for a second or two, till I pulled my foot out of it... apparently bringing boost back down into the yellow arc, and a less spirited acceleration was restored.
There's no way I'm going to find that solenoid available for sale in this sleepy little town today, and I need to depart on a nine hour drive in the morning. I'd have to assume that everything will be fine if I just keep my foot out of it (I took a seven hour round trip last weekend without issues) I'll just drive like an old lady in a Chrysler. Hopefully I can find a Parts house at my destination that can order in the solenoid while I'm there for ten days... I can install it there, for a zippy ride back home.
Thanks for helping me understand what is wrong, and what needs to be repaired.
Mark
