I changed my new (to me) 2003 MT with the Saab 0063 oil. It looks (and feels) like good stuff.
But if yours hasn't been changed in 97K you want to do it more than once. Change it and drive 500-1000 miles and do it again.
There's an easy way too... Get a funnel with a long slender end on it so you can put that in the fill hole at the top of the tranny. Pull the drain. Don't bother with the fill level plug on the side. The tranny takes 2 liters give or take a little.
Just let it drain well (over night?) and put the drain plug in. Then just dump the two liters in the top and you are done.
It's too easy and cheap to change the oil in the manual trans. Price even used transmissions and it will seem like a no brainer for easy smooth shifting forever.
