help with vibration/noise

Hi all,
A strange vibration/noise appeared while driving to work this morning. Here is the description;
- I can feel the vibration in the foot-well and gas pedal
- there is also some vibration in the steering wheel, but it doesn't appear to be worse than the vibe I always get with my 17" wheels on
- The noise is a grumble that almost sounds like an engine brake on a tractor trailer
- The noise and vibration go away under boost and are at their worst when the turbo is not engaged or when I am not accelerating
- I think I felt a small clunk when I came out of a stop, but can't be sure
- Cornering doesn't seem to make a difference
- Car is performing well otherwise
I'm baffled. Could an out of balance wheel explain this? Engine mount? Anyone have any ideas or similar experience?
Thanks,
Tim
