On the hatchbacks, the wires for the window defroster and lights run out the leading edge of the rear roofline and into the hatch. If the corrugated wiring loom cover splits, wind driven rain runs down the wires, into the hatch bodywork and drips out the first screw hole it finds.
Also, the square plug in the roof edge can break, and water can enter the cabin, staining your headliner or ruining the leather seats.
My experience comes from the same problem on a 92 900S hatch and 97 9000 CS hatch. I have to check my Viggen, but I believe its the same design on all Saabs.
Repair can be silicone or black Gorilla brand duct tape until you have time to pull the wires out and replace the corrugated plastic piece.
