So not only have they been thoroughly tested, but take a sideview look of the car with the top down. The A-pillars are fairly upright while the deck lid is rather high as. Just like a wedge. Draw a line from the A-pillar to the decklid and see where your head sits. Most likely below that line. I think youll be fine.

I have owned 3 Saab verts (6 Saabs total) and currently own a 2001 Viggen convertible. These things are built like tanks. I like my chances in an accident behind the wheel of a Saab. Even the verts.

Im not a scientist and my reasoning may be way off base but makes sense to me.
