You never know what other products will do to paint or trim. Not to mention, if they form a coating on paint, you may have real issues if you need to have the car painted. You don't want silicone on your paint.

I wash the top, let dry overnight. Remove lint (I use shipping tape wrapped around my hand). Apply with 2" paintbrush, working into the top until it absorbs in well. Have a lot of rags to catch drips when you are working near the edges or on the vertical sections.
Some people prefer to spray. The Raggtop line gets lots of positive reviews for spray application.
