Valet Parking; now can't shift into 2nd, 4th......

Took my family in the 96 900 to Golden Gate Fields yesterday and decided to spring for the valet parking. When the attendant came to my car, I told him the car has to be in reverse to get the key out and he ASSURED me he knew about Saabs. When they brought me my car back, and as I'm driving down the hill, I discover I can't shift into 2nd, 4th or reverse. The boot covering the shift knob is pulled out and on the floor is a white rectangular plastic piece. By this time I am stuck in the traffic leaving the track. I was able to drive it to my indy's shop and left him a message about what happened. While I'm taking a few things out, I looked inside and there is also a thin cable that seems to have been cut or ripped? I'm waiting now for GGF to open today, so I can start getting information to get them to pay for this. Any comments will be helpful. Thanks!
