fuse 29 blows right rear parking lights plate lights Posted by Viggen Aero [Email] (#977) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Viggen Aero) on Tue, 26 May 2009 09:18:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
1999 9-3 3 door. My 18 yr old daughter's car. Fuse # 29 blows within 5 seconds of switching on the head light switch. I have checked and tried the following:
1) Disconnected the right rear bulb holder. All contacts looked fine. Swapped out with a known good holder. Fuse still blew. Left the bulb holder disconnected.
2) Did the same with the right front parking light. Not the problem.
3) Swapped out the head light switch with a known good one. Fuse still blew.
4) I removed the plate lights. And along with 1,2,3 above this removed the load from the circuit.
5) Fuse still blew with no load.
6) I removed the carpet on both sides of the trunk. No visible wire damage.
7) The sill plate on the drivers side was loose with wire's exposed. This was my first area to look at. No visible damage to the sheathing of wire.
8) Removed the lower driver's dash panel and then removed the fuse box. All the wiring did not appear damaged.
9) Removed the radio to check for damage to the wiring harness. I read to do this in another post. No damage.
10) My first step- though written last, was to check for continuity- short circuit. I checked all of the bulb pins and fuse 29 pins. I seemed to get continuity where I should. But I am not an expert here. Should I have disconnected the negative battery cable? I didn't.
Could someone offer advice on checking for short circuits. I used a multi-meter on the resistance setting. Most readings were a 1 or below, as expected. But I did get some higher readings- I think when the light switch was on.
PLEASE HELP!!
thank you
Glen
