This is long. Car is a 1999, 9-3 SE, manual, 126k miles. Black w/ factory pin strip :)

So after poking around (and asking here) to investigate a heavy vibration upon acceleration, I found that my passenger side inner CV had given up the ghost (hopefully the companion flange/inner driver is ok.) I have the parts on order and plan to start getting to work next week.

With more poking around I found that the drivers side, lower control arm bushing had slid down, allowing the stanchion arm to rub on the control arm causing a fairly substantial gouge to form in the stanchion arm.

Here is my question/dilemma. There are several routes I can take. In no particular order:

1. I can replace the whole lower control arm assembly with new parts on the drivers side and call it a day. This will be fairly expensive and since I am currently unemployed, I have more time than money.

2. I can buy a new stanchion arm and replace the worn bushing with poly bushings. The down side to this is also the cost factor and that I would now have to do the bushing on the passengers side. Even though I will have it mostly apart to work on the CV joint, I was hoping to leave the ball joint alone on this side and only undo the inner side of the control arm as to reduce risk of damaging said ball joint. *Is it's possible to remove the control arm bushings on the vehicle if so I would be game for that?

3. I can do the same as above but with a used stanchion arm. The cost factor is removed however, the other factors are still in play along with the added risk of the used stanchion arm having a bad inner bushing. Replacing inner bushings with poly with start to put the cost factor back into play as well.

4. I can buy a used lower control arm/ball joint/stanchion arm assembly and hope for the best. I am not super keen on this idea, as finding an assembly with a good ball joint and good bushings is going to be unlikely.

Odds and ends:

-The ball joint/control arm on the drivers side is in good shape aside from the bad bushing. The stanchion arm is going in the trash (it looks very unsafe.)
-The passengers side CV joint replacement could turn into a nightmare if inner driver is worn with bad bushings. It's too soon to tell. This could turn fixing anything into a cost/reward debate.
- The car also needs brake pads front and rear.
- Will need a new pair of tires as one has a small bubble.
- 126k on the original clutch.
- Needs another cabin blower motor and an A/C recharge.
- A few years back I was rear ended in a rather fierce manner, requiring $5.5k in repairs (hit so hard that it broke a motor mount.) The repairs are not awful, but not great. After that I sucked a gallon+ of water into the engine, amazingly my indie saved her. After all that was sorted out, It was hit in the right side while parked in a lot causing damage to both doors. They function, but look bad.
- Just had $1k of work done in January, replacing ignition switch and repairing shift linkage and a few other things. Also, it's pretty clean inside

So, what do think? Should I say f* it and start parting it out? Poly bushing or not? Just buy the parts new and suck it up?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, as it's starting to make my head spin.

thanks for reading.

Adam
