unfortunately, oil change interval can be a problem in some situations. for example, you mentioned "extreme duty" in your post. not knowing what your interpretation of that is, every car and oil manufacturer i know of recommend more frequent oil changes in such situations for many reasons - chief among them is the breakdown of lubrication ability of the oil and/or higher contamination levels.
i'm not saying that it is the problem - or that your situation is definitely your bearings, but just that oil change interval can be a factor as ryan states, especially in harsh conditions.
