I got home from a 1000km road trip and noticed that the car (2002 9-3 SE, 100,000km/65,000miles) was *stumbling* a bit at idle (noticed as I hit the city and red lights).
When restarting the next morning there was a noticeable hesitation when starting that wasn't there before - it made an extra wheez or two before actually turning over.
I let it idle in the garage for 5 or 10, then shut it off. waited 5 minutes then checked the oil. There was a wisp of smoke when I unscrewed the oil cap. The oil level didn't register on the dip stick. Damn.
It took half a quart to get it to register on the dip stick and a full quart to get it to the middle of the straight bit on the dipstick.
Since doing the PCV #6 upgrade I had noticed that I was consuming oil where prior to this upgrade I did not notice any drop in oil level between changes (I go 5000km/3000miles between oil changes (Mobil 1 full synthetic)). I guess I underestimated how much.
So i am concerned about what damage I might have caused.
I've driven it for another 100km now and it still has that extra hesitation
at start that it did not have before. I just checked the oil now and it still has a wisp of smoke when I unscrew the oil cap that i do not remember ever seeing before. it *seems* to run rougher than before but I am not too sure if I can trust my judgment on on that to be unbiased.
What are my options? Should I be overly concerned?
I have been contemplating taking the oil pan out and cleaning/checking for sludge. I also have a full treatment of Auto-RX here that I was going to use after servicing the oil pan. Maybe now's the time for that?
Thanks for any advice.
