I drive a 1998 Saab 900S, 2.3 liter, 4 cylinder, non-turbo.
Lately a very weird thing has been happening: Just as I go to turn the ignition off, I hear this awful sound (like the bell sound instantly becoming distorted and faint) followed by complete silence and no interior light. When I go to start the car again, it does absolutely nothing, and all power is LOST. No radio, no power windows or accessories of any kind are operable. NOTHING. It's like one of the cables to the battery might as well have been disconnected.
Luckily, I have an anti-theft/battery saver device attached to the negative terminal on my battery that allows me to disconnect and reconnect with a simple turn of a green knob (no tools necessary). Every time this sudden power outage happens, I've always been able to restore it by simply turning the green knob all the way off, then all the way back on again. Of course, I have to re-set my radio settings, but it's a small price to pay, a minor inconvenience in exchange for a more major problem.
The first time it happened, I thought nothing of it. Now, it seems to happen just a little more frequently (though not every day; maybe once every 2 or 3 weeks).
Is this something I should be concerned about? A warning sign of a more serious problem to come that should be addressed?
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!
