Instrument Cluster Remedy (Long)

I've gotten so much from this site, now I've got something to give back.
I recently bought a '97 SE Turbo with the turbo gauge and the gas gauge not working. I suspected the problem was internal to the instrument cluster because I could whack the top of the dash with my fist and the gas gauge would work for a while.
Today I took out the instrument cluster (Thanks, Platonoff.com!) and disassembled it (making sure as others have noted here to disconnect the battery first). In order to inspect the circuit board, I had to separate the back of the cluster from its main body. I disconnected the 4 ribbon-type connectors that go from the cluster's back cover to the main body.
Once the back of the cluster was exposed, I saw solder joints where components are stuck through the circuit board and soldered to it. I inspected these with a magnifying glass. A few leads in the area of the turbo and gas gauges had separated from their solder joints. I could wiggle them back and forth with my thumbnail.
I soldered all the loose joints I could find, then assembled everything and put it all back together again. I'm happy to report that all gauges work now! Fantastic!
