Too bad, you were almost there. You need to take the entire strut assembly out of the vehicle and then bring to a shop to have them press the old ones out and the new ones in. Don't forget to hang the caliper out of the way with wire or a bungee cord so as not to damage the brake line. You will also need a large 25mm +/- socket to remove the axle nut which needs to be done with the wheel on ground or with someone holding the brake on. If you are doing both sides, make sure you loosen both nuts first before removing either caliper or you'll be disappointed when you depress the pedal to do the other side. Think it through before acting, there is a procedure. Also, that same nut requires, in some cases, to be torqued on at 150 ft lbs, then cranked an additional 45 degrees. Saab is crazy with these kind of weird specs, rather than say 175 ft lbs. Haynes has a 900 and a 9/3 book. They're both similar in most every way. The torque specs are the same for suspension parts in both books.
