v-belt pulley broke off on 1999 9-3

Hi there, I just bought my first Saab, a 1999 9-3 from someone a few weeks ago. It seemed excellent until today. I can do lots of my own repairs on my 1987 BMW, but I have no Saab manual or experience with Saabs, but I'm fairly capable. Today the small 2" upper pulley for the v-belt which is very close to the alternator broke off when it was started. Without a manual, is this something I could reasonably replace by removing parts to open up the area (such as removing the wheel and the inner fender??), or should I take it to a garage? Also, are there any discount sites or catalogs where I could buy the replacement pulley? Or a place to get that pulley used? It's about 2 inches in diameter, and the 1 inch wide metal arm which holds it to the engine just sheared off, so I have to replace the entire assembly. Could that be the sign of another problem as well, that it could snap that arm?
I appreciate any help! Mike
