Viggen died while driving low boost raw fuel smell Posted by Viggen Aero [Email] ![]() ![]() |
01 Viggen 180K
1) rough idle at cold start last few weeks
2) Wed I had no boost/ base boost
3) Thurs had weak power at start up
4) Thurs seemed like it wanted to overboost without really trying to accelerate. needle jumped up quickly and I backed off the gas.
5) Frid driving about 45. I just tapped the gas pedal a little further. There was no acceleration or anything. Just a blip of the gas. I think engine overboosted. I have experienced overboost before with my 9000 aero. It made a very loud bang, just like when I know my 9000 was in overboost. And the Viggen stalled right away. It happened so quick, I didn't see where the boost gauge was.
I could restart the car. But it stalled after 10 sec or so. Could not drive at all. I could smell raw fuel. Could not keep it running. Had it towed home (less than 1/2 mile!)
Sat AM I anxiously went out and tried to start. I was expecting the worse. To my surprise the car started right up.
However it was idling rough and there was a VERY STRONG aroma of raw fuel.
No CEL's.
I know the boost could be the BPC valve. I recognize symptoms of a bad MAF. I checked the MAF. It looks clean. There are three wires intact.
How do I test for a bad MAF?
All suggestions appreciated.
Thanks
