Thanks BlaaSaab. That was helpful. I think when I bought the car I was assuming the corner light was on when I signaled because it seemed like a lot more light being emitted than what I am used to on my 1990 pickup truck. Perhaps the repeater light is what made more light, not the cornering light.
While troubleshooting the lack of a highbeam on the driver's side I thought maybe the light control (orange) relay was causing a different problem such as no cornering light while turn signal was on. It appears like you said they are not to come on when signaling.
Back to the relay issue. I believe it started working after I took it out and tapped on it a bit. I realized it could go bad again since it has that solder issue. With that in mind I noticed online that the same relay is used on older 93's and 900's. The local junk yard had 4 of those vehicles and low and behold the last of 4 cars I looked at had the orange relay still in it and I bought it for $7.00. That seems to have worked so far.
