***disclaimer - I am a bit of a "story-teller", so apologies for the legnthy post***
I just bought a 1999 convertible 9-3 for a good price, knowing it would need some work on the convertible top and suspension. However, I had an odd issue come about yesterday morning where my SID read "Front Light Failure" and when I went out and took a look, not only my passenger side headlight was out, but so was the parking lights and fog lights on the passanger side. Being my first saab, was not aware (until yesterday) about the notorious orange relay. After reading a bit online about the orange relay, I went home and check what happened when I flashed the hi-beams. Of course, the internal hi-beam indicator light doesn't go on, and the passenger side hi-beam turns on while the driver side goes out. Obviously, based on things I read, this seemed to be related to the orange relay....I have pulled it out and opened it up. Upon inspection, I didn't notice any cracked soldering on the joints near the pins. I do see some cracks in other joing further up on the board, but wasn't sure if this is where folks have seen crack that they re-soldered. I plan on re-soldering tonight after work, but figured I would throw out a couple related questions:
- Are the cracked solder joints usually just seen near the pins or also higher on the board?
- Would this also affect the parking lights and fog lights? I check all the fuses and bulbs, and all looked good?
Thanks in advance
