If it was the shield it more likely would sound a lot louder and more like a dragging piece of metal on the ground.
I'd say take the car out and do a lot of braking to get the pads to set and see how the rotors look. You could have some grit that can't slide out or there is just enough uneven wear on your rotors to hit the pads.
If you are confidant in the braking, go a week or two and just keep an eye on the rotors. I know that when my rotors get a find coating of rust after sitting through high humidity or rain I can drive it a bit and see how even the pads are from wheel to wheel.
