You really need to check the voltage at the battery terminals with the engine off, then with the engine running. With the engine off, you should see +12.5 VDC and with the engine running, you should see +13.5 VDC or higher. If the batter is less than +12 VDC with the engine off, the battery either needs charging or the alternator is shot; if you see less than +13.5 VDC with the engine running, the alternator is either shot, or the serpentine belt is gone...
