Try "seriously indebted". They are financing most all of the new national debt (as opposed to what was there before 2008 or so... a substantial pile in itself).

Any macro thinking business person has been watching the risse of teh Chinese machine since the 1970's. You simply can't have a population of about 1.5 billion people that isn't going to be a major contender, once they decide to participate in the world economy. Likewise, the loss of manufacturing from the USA, the move towards and service economy, and the offshoring of anything that doesn't have to be in the USA has long been anticipated. Many people are starting to wake up to the fact that the corporate emphasis on profit over country is killing us economically... but don't expect changes until the rubber meets the road (as happened in another economic area when the banks neared collapse). People don't generally have a clue.

As for Chinese parts, they vary greatly in quality. Most are made as cheaply as possible since the vendors reason for going there was specifically to save money. EX: The Chinese made DI's are known for frequent and fast failure.
