Coolant leak on 2000 Viggen

I have a 2000 Viggen, that just indicated that I had a low coolant level. Before the Viggen I had a 1999 9-3 which also had a coolant leak from the drivers side front of the engine. That was easily fixed with the headbolt retorque. Looking at the Viggen I do not see the same leak on the front drivers side of the engine. Searching around I have noticed a portion of the engine below where the crankcase vent exits the back of the engine and above the alternator seems to be wet. Could there be a leak in this area? Also, I have read other posts of people smelling coolant in the car. I never new what it was, but when I start the car I get a smell (kinda sweet) which now I am guessing is coolant. Could this be a leak at the heater core? Is there a way to check this without tearing apart the interior console?
Thanks for your help.
