The shop indicated a new fuel pump was needed. They would only install the entire fuel pump assembly, at an approximate cost of $800 plus labor at $85 hour, which included dropping the tank and messing with e-break cable, etc. IT would have very expensive at the shop.
I got info on-line from an auto repair reference book at the public library that indicated the pump could be accessed from the trunk. It was not the case, the pump is underneath the rear seat. The only access is for the pump connectors.
To simplify I cut out an access hole underneath the seat by slowly and carefully nipping away with manual shears, and folding the metal back gradually until the pump was fully exposed.
The new BOSCH pump was $140 at Advanced Auto Parts. It took a good amount of time and patience to remove the old pump from the assembly and to install new one, specially putting sliding the fuel line back in place.
The car started right away and is running great. I also put in new plugs, and obviously a new fuel filter.
