Finding oil residue in the turbo's air induction pipes is normal. nothing to worry about.
The issue with sludge concerns pretty much all 9-3's and 9-5's. The problem is basically that the owner's manual called for 10k oil changes, the PCV system wasn't up to snuff, and the oil pickup screen has too fine of a mesh. Other factors including oil pressure senders that fail and don't alert the driver to the problem early on, the catalytic converter being to quite close to the oil pan, and low friction pistons that allowed more blow-by also contributed to this problem.
The solution is to use good synthetic oil and change it every 3k or so. Following that regimen, its unlikely you'll have any problems with sludge. The catch is that your bought the car used, so you don't know what the previous owner did. The safest bet is to drop the oil pan and inspect it for sludge. If its grimy, clean it as well as the pickup. Short of doing this, you could also just take a coat hanger and scrape the bottom of the pan when after you remove the drain plug. This will give a half decent idea of how much crap is in there.
Also get in the habit of looking for the oil pressure idiot light. Every time you turn the car on, it should come on for a second or so. If it doesn't, the sensor has failed, and it won't alert you to a low oil pressure condition.
