Stay away from reusable filters that need to be oiled

Whatever you do in terms of filters - stay away from the kind that needs regular oiling, like K&N. In my humble little opinion, these things are a scam, and can actually do bad things:
1. They usually allow larger particles to go through than a stock air filter
2. The oil can migrate onto the MAF sensor wire and throw off the readings
While there is no 100% proof of sensor wire contamination, we have seen quite a few MAFs fail while such filters have been used on the Porsche 928 (S4 and later models from 1987 on).
It is my understanding that the Saab T7 engines will run lean when the MAF fails, and I've read more than one report of pistons melting or shattering under such conditions.
Call me paranoid, but I would never install a filter that requires additional maintenance and puts my engine at risk, unless there is a very strong reason... which I don't see here.
