Yes, idling is not a good idea, but after a car has been stored for five months, I'd say a good couple of minutes of idling is a good idea. Besides, when the car will be started, it won't be during the cold season.
So you say to put oil before storage as well? I only see a point in doing one of the two. i.e. either before storage, or after. They inside of the cylinder walls aren't going to "rust" after a five - six month storage (well, not here in Canada in -20 weather). With a good drive with fresh oil before storage, it should suffice. Six months of storage really isn't a LONG period of time. If it's a year, then yes, other precautions must be taken.
Why crank the engine while the plugs are out? Is there a difference in doing it while they are in? Also, do all of you guys have air compressors in your houses so as to blow air near the plugs? I surely don't have one and will have to think up something.
