Direct wire is one way to do it I guess. Otherwise you need to turn the temp down all the way, fan all the way up and open windows so car thinks it's still hot. But the compressor doesn't always run then either.
When the system is off and nothing running, you will always have a pressure higher than the atmospheric. The pressures will equalize (I think i read 5 or 7 bars...maybe 5.7 bars). Once running the low pressure drop, and high rise to the working pressures. (It's normal for the low to rise above working pressure when off)
Replaced a leaky hose yesterday myself. It's holding vacuum so i'm ready for recharge, but I have the wrong size drier so not yet.
