You must either be very old, or very crazy... OK, I'll make an exception and accept "geeky" as well. LOL!

I've owned 8 cars in my whole life. Since the year 2000 I bought exactly one car - the 9-3 in January.

I don't think you should ever expect high reliability from a highly modified car. To me that would be an oxymoron.

It's a well known secret that many manufacturers could easily squeeze a few extra ponies out of their production engines. However, they won't do so in favor of higher reliability. That's even true for performance car manufacturers like Porsche.

Besides: They need to leave some room for the aftermarket industry, which creates a lot of excitement for certain buyers.

Anyway, I hope you will be able to fix your car and keep it. Parting it and selling the parts can be a full time job for a few weeks. It would seem that right now, you'd be better off investing time in your studies: your future.

Somehow that reminds me of the following, even though it doesn't fully apply in your case:

We often get young kids on the Porsche message board asking, whether they should buy a 928 as their first car. My standard answer is: 'You can always have a nice car, but it's much easier to study and travel while you're young and independent.'
