I mean some folks are tire, wheel, suspension and shock connoisseurs and they gush over every 5mm of tread or inch of wheel size they can cram in their wheel wells. Such and such a brand of tire feels so much better than another and on and on. One could argue that skinny tires and sliding around is having more handling fun than fatter grippier tires.
I am a hypocrite though, I bought my 2000 9-5 Aero SportWagon because it came with the cool 8" wide BBS two piece wheels which have since been scratched, dented and bent out of service and replaced with 16's from an Arc. So there's a downside to low profile rubber and rims, they're a lot more fragile and susceptible to curb scraping and potholes.
So improve the handling, not so much, again slipperier is more funner. And an OG9-3 vert is never gonna' be a "handler" though one with fat rubber and slammed down, like a Viggen can be hustled. But make the car look better with wider taller wheels and tires and fill out the wheel wells, OK. You have the option of going to 16's, 17's or I bet folks can even recommend an 18" size.
