It's definitely not the battery.
The starter will periodically not engage. I can let the car sit for a month, start it and it cranks fast and strong and starts immediately, turn it off, and crank it on, off, on, off, on, off, etc., with the headlights on, all other electrics on, and do it 20 times in a minute and it spins fast and strong, so no, not the battery.
But I can drive it 5 miles to the convenience store, get back in it 2 minutes later, turn the key, and no cranking, no buzzing, no clicking, nothing at all when turning the key to start. All warning lights, and electrics work, however, when the ignition is on, it just won't crank, just like if I tried to start it in DRIVE. So I let it sit for 1/2 hour, listening to the radio. Then try again, and voila, it cranks strong and starts.
It's either some sort of solenoid, or the safety lockout that prevents the car from turning over when the automatic tranny is in a gear other than park or neutral.
Is there some sort of solenoid in the circuit, and if so, where can I find it?
How does the gear shift lever command a "no start" when in drive? I'm assuming a switch somewhere, and if so, where can I find that / how do I gain access to it?
thks, scott
