I wish that I was a bit more mechanical so that I did not have to ask such a basic question, but my 2001 9-3 convertible has a very strong idle somewhere around 1100-1200 RPM. If I take my foot off the brake with the car in gear it has no problem moving forward and I feel like I am fighting at every stop light or in traffic.

Since purchasing this car in about 6 years ago I have had few issues until mid-2009 and have spent close to $2000 on a variety of repairs and I am trying to decide whether I want to keep plowing money into the car or look for something else. I know that I need a new master cylinder, but if getting the engine to play nice is going to cost another $400+ I may be finished.

Is this too generic a problem to suggest a cause and diagnosis?
