Outside mirrors--again. Help needed!

I posted a few days back about the outside mirrors on daughter's '99 9-3 not working. The switch needs replacing, but I think that at least the driver's side mirror has a bad motor. Or at least the gears that move it may be toast, because moving the mirror with my fingers meets almost no resistance at all.
So what's the best way to go about this? Pull a motor from the boneyard? Are what years are the same?
Or should I grab a complete used mirror assembly?
Two more questions: I pried the switch out OK, but how do I remove the plastic panel that's around it where the power connection lives?
Will a switch from a 9-5 work? The one in the '99 looks the same as the one in our 9-5, just inverted.
And if I pull the whole mirror assembly at the boneyard, how do I do that? I assume it's obvious once the inside plastic panel is off, but I'd rather not break any mounting tabs when I pull that.
Thanks!
