Intermittent alternator light

I’ve had intermittent instances of my alternator light coming on for the past ~6 months. The frequency of these occurances is increasing, from once/months, to once/weeks. Every time I check, including immediately after the light comes on, I get a voltage of ~14.2V, indicating that the alternator is charging. Once, while the light was on, I had the system checked out at an Auto Retailer, using a scan tool that checks a range of alternator parameters, but all looked fine. In each case, the light goes out after ~24 hrs, so it seems to be triggered by a transient issue.
This last time, I noted that the alternator light came on as soon as I turned on the ignition, PRIOR to starting. Is there an alternator parameter that is measured on a stationary system? I’m fearing I’ll need to replace the alternator, but I’d like to rule out other explanations, like an overly sensitive fault-detection system, before going this route.
Thanks
