Check ball joint for play with car on ground. Check for loose tie rod end on steering arm or inner control arm bushing where attached to rack while rocking steering wheel. Popping or groaning coming from strut top mount when turning steering wheel suggests failed upper strut bearing and/or mount failure. Look for cracked rubber in mount, off center strut rod, rubber assembly that is cocked in aluminum mount bracket. This piece can move up and down about 1/4-inch limited by top and bottom washers on strut rod. Loose 24mm nut holding strut rod to upper mount. Hold strut rod and tighten nut. Loose strut cartridge large gland nut inside strut tube. Peel up bumper sleeve and reach through spring to tighten with wheel off ground to increase space on spring coils. Worn bushings on either end of stanchion arm. Worn bushing on stabilizer bar or worn/broken bar end link. Loose brake pads or missing brake caliper spring. Loose wheel lug bolts. Loose wheel bearing (should be noisy). Loose subframe bolts. Broken right hand motor mount.
