Hi everyone,

I have a 96 Saab 900 turbo, 2-door, 155K miles. My car was rear-ended last week. I've had two estimates and the adjuster estimate. All showed that I needed replacement bumper, tail light, and quarter filler (the plastic piece underneath the tail light). None of them thought there was any other damage, though the adjuster said once they got it up on the lift they'd be able to tell for sure.

I would love to save some money, and since my car has a few dents anyway, I have no need for things to be perfect. Honestly, I'd rather save some money for any mechanical problems that may arise soon.

I have heard that replacing the rear bumper and taillight are very, very easy and that any mechanic (or even myself) can do it. I am not sure about the quarter filler. Should I try to buy the parts in the right color (scarab green) and do this myself, or have a simple mechanic do it?

The one thing I'm worried about is whether there might be additional damage that the body shop would see on the lift. I don't want to be unfair to them - if I use their time (beyond the estimate), I'd like to throw them some business. But I'd rather not spend a thousand bucks getting these things replaced if the parts cost $500 and it's a simple repair. Goldwing says rear bumper replacement should be under an hour. And my bumper is gone, so it would simply be a matter of putting the new one on.

Thoughts?
