1996 Saab 900 Front License plate bracket & bolt sizes Posted by juanm [Email] ![]() ![]() |
So on our 1996 Saab 900, we have this glossy black license plate bracket. It has eight holes in it.
There are four upper outer holes which are used for fastening the plate to the bumper (I think these are also used to attach those Saab promotional emblem type plates or maybe European plates).
The remaining four holes are the universal holes for attaching a US license plate.
These holes also have receiving nuts embedded into the plate.
Here the question: What size bolt goes in these nuts? I have tried 5mm - these seem to start to grab the threads but then they can be pulled right out. I have tried 6mm - these start to go in and then are very tight and don't really fit (or so it seems).
I have thought I should just try forcing the 6mm bolts in there but I figured I should ask the Saab community here first. Are the 6mm bolts the right size and the tightness is just rust in the nut? Should the 6mm bolts in of a certain pitch (the ones I have tried I think are 1.0 since that is what you typically find in the hardware stores, the good hardware store workers are also baffled by this).
So what size is this bolt?
Thanks
