The Environmental Protection Agency EPA) requires all gasoline sold in the United States to meet minimum specifications for chemical additives that act as detergents to help keep fuel injectors clean and internal engine parts free of carbon deposits and other impurities that could impair the engine's functioning.
That said, many car manufactures believe that the EPA standard is not good enough and recommend the use of "top Tier" gasoline in their vehicles. Top Tier gasoline meets a more stringent standard for more effective detergent action and removal of deposits. Here is a link to the Top Tier gasoline website.
I use either Chevron or Shell premium gasoline in my Saabs. I also use Techron or Redline fuel system cleaner every 5,000-miles.
