There's no easy answer to that! It depends on how 'meticulous' you'd like to be. Your car is almost 10 years old, so if you plan to keep it a while longer, you could replace the entire front end components (links, bushings, control arms, stanchion arms, strut bearings, strut mounts, bellows, etc.) If you aren't in the rust belt, you can get away with not replacing the steering knuckles. The issue is that if you just do the struts now, then other components will fail sometime in the future and you will be removing the strut assembly again.
I can attest to the success of doing a complete rebuild... '99 drives like it's on rails (and I won't have to touch it ever again for the life of the car).
