Hi Noel,
The back of the engine is bone dry as well as the valve cover. The guy at Atomic Auto in Portland thinks the car was not run a lot and one of the piston rings has some gunk on it that is allowing oil to seep by. Running at 85 mph across Wyoming and Nebraska probably vaporized the oil. He had a customer with the same engine that did the same thing. Every 1000 miles it would burn a quart of oil and would come in and get it topped off by the shop.I'm going to do the PVC#6 update and also do an oil change with Synthetic so I know what's in there also will eventually pull the valve cover for a look.It seems that all the owners of this car kept up with the maintenance according to the CarFax report. Thanks again for your input.
