Short belt to avoid a/c compressor: UPDATE

So the parts store was out of the 71" belt kaslop suggested in a post on this topic from August. I get the same belt bender suggested this week only to find it was the same length as the one coming off the car. This of course is after I buy the belt and get the old one off. GRRR!
Turns out that some OG9-3s must have an intermediate idler pulley. There is a place for it on the block. WITH this pulley the belt is the same length as the one for a car WITHOUT the a/c compressor in the loop. It is 92" and change.
So back to the parts store. They worked the parts numbers harder and found a different 71" belt. Had a weird p/n, but the cross-reference is for 71".
Put it on and it fit fine.
I had to pull the wheel and open the access panel to get the belt off the crank pulley. Just wouldn't come free from above and I was burning daylight. Anyway, #2 daughter's car is rolling again and I'll deal with the a/c compressor come spring.
Thanks to all who gave input, and to Jerrit for the pix. This sure beat the alternative.
