Hello,
I have recently been getting a the CEL and transmission light. I had the code read and it's P0705. I have been researching it on here and have found that's related to a bad neutral safety switch, but I have a couple questions before buying a $340 part.
- The first time it happen, my wife was trying to drive home. She said she started the car and it wouldn't shift into gear. This hasn't happen again.
- The next day I went to pick up the car with her (she got a ride home). It started and the lights were one, but it drove normally. No limp home mode and all the gears worked normally and when they were supposed to (i.e. 1/2/3/4 gears shifted up and down normal).
- After sitting in the garage the a couple days, I went out to look at it on a Saturday. I had since found the moving the shifter 20/30 times technique, turned it off, and then started the car. The lights went off by themselves.
- After I drove the next few days to see if it they would come on again, and they did but once again the car drove normal. I read the code, P0705, then deleted it.
- A couple days later the code and lights came back and is still there.
My concerns come from the fact that it's been cold here and I've seen the grease thing but I don't know if that means I need a new switch and secondly it has never gone into limp home mode. It seems most, or all maybe, have reported their car going into limp home mode when the get the P0705 code. I haven't so is the switch really bad?? Why is there no limp home mode trigger?
I have a 2001 93 SE Convertible that's an automatic with ~104k miles.
Thanks in advance!
