You don't mean the black goo on the sunvisors? That's only the rubber stops for sunvisors that can't take aging very gracefully.
Other than that I don't know what could be going on. It's a very complex system and without my Tech 2 I wouldn't even bother fault tracing them.
As far as water leaks go on convertibles, especially 16 year old ones, my advice to my customers is to keep the car garaged at rain storms or live with a little leak here and there.
A convertible was not meant to be water tight except right when it left the assembly plant. After that it could very well allow some water in here and there.
Sometimes it might be something obvious like a misaligned window but many times the water is trickling in getting wicked in through cracks here and there and the cost to fix is too much.
