Maybe you could coast it into the dealership. Or you could have the tow truck drop you in the back somewhere out of sight. I actually had people pull stuff like that when I sold new cars. Once a deal is done the dealer rarely drives the car again. If you parked it where they put their trade-ins it might be days or weeks before anyone drives it. You could plead ignorance and say it was running fine on the way there, if they even bother to call you on it. If they only allowed you $2K against the new car they probably didn't even really give you that much and they'll probably wholesale it. It's hard to say what they'll do if/when they find out. On the other hand, with gas prices being what they are, economical cars are bringing big bucks at the moment. With a good clutch you could conceivably get $5-6K for it, especially in the spring.
