Sounds like the shop is not quite on top of their work with Saab's or GM either for that matter.
Also, when the timing belt and pulleys have been properly replaced, the interval is 60K between changes, not 30K.
When the 97 900 V6 came out which had the latest and greatest timing belt setup from factory, the interval was changed to 60K in the book.
The V6 engine both in the 900, 9000 and 9-5 have gotten a worse rep than it deserve because Saab and many dealers didn't know what they were dealing with and not replacing the timing belt and pulleys as a set.
Or as in the 9-5, Saab almost knew what they were doing since they replaced the belt for free at the 60K service but not the pulleys so the customer drives away with a new belt and 10-20K miles later, the pulley fails and they have no recourse since car is out of warranty and the belt has been properly replaced and it was not the belt that failed, only the pulley.
