I was looking at a '99 9-3 convertible today. There were some waves in the top near the left rear corner, sort of between the glass and the quarter panel. There were two of them, sort of gentle waves with a peak to valley of maybe 10mm. Very obvious if you're used to the usual taut look of an NG900 or 9-3 roof. They did not match the usual fold marks you see on these roofs and were at a different angle. There were also a couple small ripples on that side just below the rear window.
I checked and the roof looked to be original based on a guess at the age. Definitely a Saab part. It also seemed to match up with the roof mechanism properly - no odd twists that indicated it was attached oddly.
Is it possible to correct this problem? Can the canvas be improperly aligned on the roof frame and cause this to happen... that is, could it be adjusted back into shape?
